"White As Snow?"
“Jesus paid it all
All to Him I owe
Sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow” *
The words of this beloved hymn have never been more treasured in my heart than of late.
All we are or ever hope to be we owe it all to Christ alone!
Vividly recalling the number of times we sang this song in our precious country church in WV, these were just words on a page back then. As I have “matured” (aged) I can’t reflect on the deep truths of this song and remain composed.
“Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe. Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow”.
Our Bible Study group has been examining Old Testament passages and dissecting the New Testament to possess clarity and gain an understanding of our Redeemer. The Word of God continues to reveal our desperate need for The Redeemer. I am in awe of Jesus Christ! In awe that He would do whatever it took to redeem, recover, ransom, buyback, purchase, secure our freedom (salvation).
The following verse left me in a puddle of tears (I’m an ugly crier so be glad you weren’t around when this went down).
“For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.”
1 Peter 1:18-19 (NLT)
our lives are empty because that is our inheritance from our forefathers.
great jobs, unlimited money, gold and silver will lose value and we will remain empty.
Jesus came to buy us back! Our Redeemer, sinless, spotless Lamb of God, loved us enough to buy us back.
*“Jesus Paid It All” appeared in a hymnal for the first time in 1868. http://www.allaboutjesuschrist.org
