Confessions of a Pastor's Wife ~ strongholds!
“Though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses [strongholds]”
(2 Corinthians 10:3-4, NASB).
~ Our battle isn’t planned according to the way this world goes to battle. We don’t use guns or bombs because our weapons aren’t physical. Our war is spiritual in nature and our weaponry is the “full armor of God”.
The belt of truth
The body armor of God’s righteousness.
For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared (to stand firm)
The shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.
Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
(Ephesians 6:14-17 NLT).
~ We are empowered by God alone.
~ God’s plan is to destroy spiritual strongholds: arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God;
(2 Corinthians 10:5 AMP).
The “arguments” are the philosophies, reasonings, and schemes of the world.
The “pretensions” have to do with pride, self-centered, and self-confiidence.
Here’s how it goes:
The Christian, stands ready in spiritual armor and armed with spiritual weapons, sets out to win the world for Christ, but he soon finds oppositions. The enemy has raised up strong walls to eradicate Truth - God’s plan for man’s redemption. Ah! yes the fortress of human reasoning, strengthened by numerous subtle arguments and the pretense of logic. Passions and fiery darts defended by lust, pleasure, and greed. Self elevation known as pride, in which the human heart delights in thoughts of its own excellence and sufficiency.
BUT this doesn’t discourage the Christian warrior. Using the weapons of God’s choosing, in the power of Christ, the strongholds are attacked, the walls are demolished and broken down. The victorious Christian enters the ruins and leads captive, as it were, every false theory and every human philosophy that had once proudly asserted its independence from God.
Now tear down those strongholds cause ain't nobody got time for it!
