Confessions of a PW ~ I have a heart condition...
...my heart is wicked and deceitful. If I don't guard it like a boss I get in big trouble.
Here's the deal~
1. Our heart will mislead us. It will escort us into situations that "feels right" and cause us to make decisions without considering the outcome or consequences. We hear the phrase "follow your heart" but I'm screaming this passage:
Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard,
for out of it flow the springs of life.
(Proverbs 4:23 AMP)
When we follow our heart we're essentially following our feelings. My feelings supply me false information which causes me to become cyinical and skeptical of you. I can. not. trust my feelings.
2. Proverbs instructs us to "guard our heart" not follow it.
One of the translations uses wellspring which means "goings out, going forth." Basically it means what flows through our heart is where our life will follow. Our hearts determine the coarse of our life, therefore, we must guard our hearts. We must allow God to flood our hearts with His love and guidance and by the power of the Holy Spirit we must guard our hearts. We must not allow our heart to manipulate our choices.
Bottom line: as vital as it is for our hearts to pump blood through our bodies, we must guard our hearts or that which flows out of us will be stagnant poison, misguided feelings, and ungodly character.
We must stay on our knees in prayer daily and saturate our hearts with the Truth of God's Word.
