Let There Be Laughter!!!

"Sometimes I laugh so hard, tears run down my leg!" Yes I did, I totally said that!

Seriously though, when was the last time you rolled on the floor and laughed until your face hurt? You know, that belly laughter that leaves you in tears. Have you ever been laughing only to realize you are now laughing at yourself laughing?

“Many people don't get enough laughter in their lives. In fact, one study suggests that healthy children may laugh as much as 400 times per day, but adults tend to laugh only 15 times per day.” (Elizabeth Scott, M.S.)

It is important for us to surround ourselves with people who keep us in stitches. (so to speak) Life is meant to be lived filled with laughter. It is good medicine! Proverbs 17:22(ESV) A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Lets look at all the healthy benefits of laughter: it reduces stress, keeps us healthy, it’s good for the heart, keeps life in perspective and it creates joy! Laughter decreases stress hormone levels, strengthens the immune system, relaxes muscles, reduces pain, lowers blood pressure, and it's a natural anti-depressant.

Why don’t we laugh more? Maybe we’ve forgot how. My mother is one of the best examples of laughter I know. She is a quiet woman but when she laughs, her laughter comes from the depths of her soul and it is contagious. If you suspect that you are suffering from laughter deprivation then I would encourage you to find somebody to laugh at! Umm, I meant you should find an avenue of laughter.

Learn to laugh at yourself! Every chance we get to laugh at ourselves is a potential opportunity for stress relief. It is incredibly freeing and fun to experience the pure amusement of laughing at ourselves. For the love of God, laugh!

Don’t be so serious. Although I love laughter and fun, I have a tendency to become so serious that I can be a fun sucker. I often have to remind myself to chill out because life is too short to be so solemn.
