“You is kind. You is smart. You is important.” ― Kathryn Stockett, The Help happens to be one of my all time favorite movie quotes.
Another one of my favorite quotes is from the Word of God and it sets my heart on fire! “Know (perceive, recognize, and understand with approval) that the Lord is God! It is He Who has made us, not we ourselves [and we are His]! We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.” Psalm 100:3 AMP
When we choose (it is a choice) to believe God’s truth about ourselves, we are then free to be the individual God created us to be.Below are suggestions that I have established in my own journey. Most days I rely heavily on one or more, possibly all of them. Be you - you are unique! There is no one else on this earth who can fill your shoes.
Be You!Be you - it is possible as you remain in the Word - The greatest source of inspiration with being you is being full of the Word. “So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32 ESV
Be you - How? Start with a word study on “grace”. Accept yourself because you are a wonderful contribution to the family of God. He has given you great qualities that only you can bring, so bring it big and be You!
Be you and be ok with who you are - Psalm 139 is a refreshing Word. Take some time to read the entire chapter, I promise it will give you a new perspective on God’s power and presence in your life.
Be you - some people just won’t like you, who cares! Do not take their dislike personally; do not embrace their behavior, and do not engage in their negativity. Our goal is to please the Father and as we accomplish that we can care for those who may not care for us. One Sunday morning I was helping out with an obstacle. Instead of being met with gratefulness, a man very unkindly (and loudly) told me off. I mean venom spewed and I didn’t even see it coming. Out of no where, BAM I got it. Way to go to worship, sir! I could have engaged with his behavior but I would have lowered my standard. He stormed out and I held the door for him. Of course, we quickly resolved the matter which was a complete misunderstanding. He avoids me but that’s his issue, not mine. This brings me to my next point.
Be you - keep your forgiveness list short. “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:32 ESV) Yes, I know this one can be rather challenging; however, it is not optional. We must be intentional to forgive quickly or unforgiveness will take root in our hearts. The damage we experience in by holding onto unforgiveness is not worth it. Let it go, on purpose, be free!
Be you - there it is again! Let me say it a little louder: knowing who you are in Jesus Christ allows you to find your true identity. Outside of these parameters we will attempt to be what everyone else wants us to be which will leave us unfulfilled.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
Now go Be You!
