Is Peace Possible?
Peace could be referred to as the illusive fruit. It is the third fruit of the Spirit that seems to be absent in our world, homes and among Christians. Believers are the recipient of peace; however, few possess the peace that is made readily available to us.
Peace should be a reality to those who have placed their trust in Christ. Galatians 5:22-23 says, “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”
blueletterbible.com lends the following information of the word peace:
“of Christianity: the tranquil (calm) state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and content with its earthly lot, of whatsoever sort that is”; “the sense of rest and contentment”
If peace is possible, then why do we not experiencing it? If our soul has assurance of salvation in Jesus Christ, then we should fear nothing because God is completely aware of every detail of our lives. Rest and contentment belong to us, so why are we freaking out when difficult situations arise? Let’s go to the Word.
"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid". (John 14:27 NIV)
I believe we should take ownership in our peace. By that I mean we are to be looking into the Word of Truth. Memorize passages on peace and meditate on them day and night until His Word saturates our minds and our situations.
Obtaining peace is possible! Jesus states, in the John 14:27 passage, that He left peace for us. It can not be obtained by this worlds money, jobs, or relationships. Don’t miss this: real peace can only come through Jesus. Anything else is a temporary fix. We will continue failing in our attempts to find peace until we come face to face with The Source of peace, Jesus Christ. (Praise!)
John 14:27 also tells us not to be troubled or fearful because His peace is available IN our sufferings, disaster and celebrations. We must deliberately run to Him for peace and I. mean. run. hard. like a desperate person; we can not afford to lose our peace. I believe He is warning us that fear will try to consume us when His peace is absent. Fear, if left unattended, will destroy any peace that God has granted us.
Is peace possible? You bet it is! What are you facing today? Look up “peace” passages and hold on for dear life, as though you are holding onto a life preserver.
Begin with this one~
“And he must turn away from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it.”
