Faith Overcomes Fear

Does the daily news brings fresh reasons for anxiety? Is fear consuming your thoughts? The big question is, can you imagine living without fear?

We must be on the alert! Fear will be part of our lives but we can't give it control. In Jesus, we have the ALL powerful, Sovereign Lord over life’s circumstances. What if faith in Him, not fear of your circumstances, was your response when life gets derailed? Perhaps Jesus asked us the following question to encourage a solid reaction, “Why are you afraid?” (Mark 4:40)

On this particular day, Jesus had been teaching lessons from a boat near the shore of the Sea of Galilee. When evening came He gathered His disciples together, put them in the boat and He went to sleep. HE WENT TO SLEEP!!! Meanwhile their boat was met with a fierce storm. They woke Jesus up and asked Him, “Don’t you care about us?” (Mark 4:38)

As they headed to the other side of the Sea their circumstances changed. What had been a calm, routine evening, became terrifying (been there). Fear was so gripping they expected to die. Notice the question they asked Him when they were afraid for their lives, “…do you not care?” In the fear of the moment, they doubted the love of God.

What is the relationship between faith and fear? faith overcomes fear or fear will destroy your faith.

The disciples had every reason to trust Jesus. They’d heard Him teach, watched Him perform miracles, yet they had no faith in crisis. Fear is a powerful emotion and it will take over if we allow it. Faith is ever present and more powerful than fear. Our faith in Jesus Christ keeps fear in check.

Unbelief causes fear which makes us question whether Jesus cares. It’s not that we don't believe “in” Jesus, it's as though we do not know Him well enough to trust Him in a crisis. Jesus handled their crisis of faith, He saw that they were terrified and He addressed it

“He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.” (Mark 4:39)

We trust Him by knowing Him before the storm arrives. Be in The Word.
