Confessions of a Pastor's Wife ~ I Can't Keep the Rules!!
No more checklists! No more ridiculous self imposed (or other) urealistic expectations to live up to. No. More! However our goals should be evident ~
"Walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called."
Ephesians 4:1 (ESV),
The word “walk” appears 212 times in 210 verses in the New American Standard Bible so it must be important that we walk (live) in a specific way.
walk: never having both feet off the ground at once. Strongs Dictionary says “to regulate one’s life, to conduct one’s self.
manner: a person's outward bearing or way of behaving toward others.
worthy: virtuous, righteous, good, moral, ethical, upright, upstanding, principled, exemplary; law-abiding, irreproachable, blameless, guiltless, unimpeachable, honest, honorable, reputable, decent, respectable, noble, meritorious; pure, saintly, angelic; squeaky clean.
How does one “walk in a manner worthy” without getting caught up in the rules? Paul is not telling us to live up to some spiritually unrealistic “to do” list. The religious do’s and don'ts are an unattainable standard of perfection, it’s simply not possible! However it IS possible to live out our calling according to the Word. Live out what we know is Truth and our walk will be in a manner that is completely worthy of the calling of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There’s that.
Live it up and live it out!
