"Through" The Fire

Often God allows us the awesome opportunity to participate in refreshing pastors and wives. Usually our paths cross because of a refining process. Some couples we know, others we are honored to meet for the first time. Whatever the scenario we have this in common: the fire.

I received a call from a friend whose husband was fired from his staff position because his ministry was successful. (Inhale) Naturally my friend was devastated and broken to the point of exhaustion. Fear had consumed her mind which affected her ability to think clearly.

Immediately we arranged to meet for a time of ministry. As she crossed the threshold of Healing Place Ministries* she collapsed in my arms. Together we fell to the floor weeping and desperate for the presence of Almighty God. (Exhale) I do not know how long we remained there on the floor but I can tell you this much when we stood up, we stood in a strength that was not our own.

I came across the following verse several years ago. These Words from the prophet have brought us great comfort in the fire. I used to view the fire as painful and I did not see value in it, furthermore, I did not sign up for this intense level of pain. Until I began to see that the value of the fire, through The Word. Fire, trials, adversity whatever you call it, is necessary in our becoming more like Christ.

Isaiah 43:2(NASB) “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you."

Knowing that the God of this universe is with us in the center of our trials, preserving us for His use should bring a trust and a rest. When we belong to God and we are assaulted by ruthless words or actions of others, we have no reason to allow anger to consume us because God is completely aware of all that is occurring.

Notice the wording in this passage:

“when you *pass through the waters”

* pass: to progress, proceed, go through.

“when you walk through the fire”

  1. God has not promised us a life that is free from difficulties.

  2. He is confirming that trials. will. come. and disaster will happen.

  3. We can be confident that as trials come, “I will be with you”.

  4. He is stating the key to our preservation is the presence of God.

  5. God’s people are preserved by His presence.

Dear friends, it’s not a matter of “if” but “when” you are in the flames of adversity, you must resolve now to keep your eyes on Jesus Christ and keep on going!

*Healing Place Ministries, Inc is a non-profit ministry established by my husband, Darryl & me for the purpose of refreshing ministers and spouses.
